For over two decades, on the west side of Joplin, a mural has been drawing visitors in. The painting, created by local artist Debra Heine and entitled "On the Wings of Butterflies," is a colorful depiction of nature at its most beautiful. Even from a distance, the mural's intricate details can be seen.

The mural is located at Burley and Myrtle, just off of Main Street. Visitors are welcome to come and take photos of the painting, or even stop and have a conversation with Heine about her work. The mural is also home to several friendly butterflies who love to visit humans!

Route 66 Mural Park is a 4-acre park located in Joplin, Missouri. It is home to a mural by Mexican artist José Clemente Orozco. The mural, titled "The triumph of life," was painted and is one of the largest murals in the United States. Route 66 Mural Park also features statues of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, as well as a children's play area.

Ewert Park Joplin is an amusement park located in Ewert, Missouri. It was the first amusement park in Missouri. The park features a wooden roller coaster called the "Witch's Coaster", which is considered to be one of the best wooden roller coasters in the world. The park also features a water ride called the "Big John" and a Ferris wheel called the "Old Blue".

Walter Woods Conservation Area is a nature reserve in Joplin, Missouri. The property was purchased by the City of Joplin and is managed by the Joplin Parks and Recreation department. The conservation area offers hiking, picnicking, fishing, bird watching, and horseback riding. There are also two nature trails that wind through the woods. One trail leads to the old mill site and the other trail leads to the Walter Woods Nature Preserve.
